Time, Time, Time
So, for this outing of mixmania, I decided to structure it with seven songs, one for each day of the week, and then evenly distribute time-related songs around them. For an arbitrary arrangement, I think it actually turned out to have a pretty good flow.
1. The Dumps - Elvis Perkins: "The past will rust in peace..."
2. One Piece at a Time - Johnny Cash:
3. Sunday Morning - James
4. Time Travel...Yes!!! - The Flaming Lips
5. On a Monday - Lead Belly
6. Someday Baby - Bob Dylan
7. The Future Soon - Jonathan Coulton: In an early version, this was much closer to Leonard Cohen's "The Future." As far away as they are now, the joke's even weaker.
8. Tuesday Morning - The Pogues
9. Time - Tom Waits
10. Ash Wednesday (Live) - Elvis Perkins
11. It's Only Time - The Magnetic Fields
12. Thursday's Child - David Bowie
13. Twenty-Five Minutes to Go - Johnny Cash: I think at one point in this song there actually are only 25 minutes left in the mix. That was the plan, anyway.
14. The Future - Leonard Cohen
15. Friday I'm in Love (Acoustic) - The Cure: Used to hate this song. My favorite version has always been the Strangelove remix from the single, but it made the mix go over time.
16. I was Born Almost Ten Thousand Years Ago -Dan Zanes
17. Saturday Night - The Misfits
18. Til The End of Time - DeVotchKa: I've used it before, but it's a good one. Still don't care for Little Miss Sunshine.
19. How's Forever Been Baby? - Elvis Perkins with Dr. Dog and The Cold War Kids: I like the idea of the infinite future used in the past tense.
And on a side note "Icky Thump," the new White Stripes single, is on itunes. I like it a lot better than the first single from their last album. And they're coming 'round here in July. Happy Happy. Joy Joy.
